I am 40 and LOVE pre-sear Ascalon. I have 2 characters there now (El/Mes and Nec/Monk) and one in the Academy (War/El). I hope that more zones and quests are added to it. The scenery is beautiful, and it's pretty challenging depending on what places you visit.

You ought to check out the Armor Compendium on the site here. It's pretty up to date, except last I heard they got rid of level requirements to wear armor, so now it's just crafting material and gold cost.

Starter armor (for casters) is 5 AL and the collectors give you 7AL armor. It's not a noticeable improvement, but it looks different at least. If you plan to spend a lot of time in pre-searing ascalon, it's not a bad time investment. However if you're trying to rush through and get to the next part of the game, you're better off buying the first set you find in Ascalon City (post Searing). You can get 15 or 30 AL sets there, wait til you make it to Yak's Bend. Upgrading your armor makes a big difference.

As for Runes:
Runes can be added to any armor (including starter) to the best of my knowledge.
Runes can be salvaged from armor, provided it's not starter (or collector) armor. Use an expert kit. You may get some common crafting materials, or rare materials, or the rune, but you have a chance of recovering it.

Starter armor cannot be salvaged, no matter how hard you try. It's destined for the trash can.

As for rings:
Last BWE they got rid of the Ring system. They used to be there to learn skills from skill charms. You had to buy a skill charm (either from an NPC vendor or another player), then double click the ring and single click on the charm of the skill you wanted to learn. But as I said, as of last BWE, the skill charm system is no more. There is no way to make charms, and no one to buy them from, and rings are useless without charms. I guess you could put it into a museum this BWE, but with the wipe coming up, they'll be gone soon anyways.

Thanks. I have been to the site and checked it out thoroughly. It is mostly Greek to me as I don't even know what the anacronym AL stands for. It also looks like you get only one armour choice from each crafter.

I will remember that about the runes. Thank you. Best to save them till you have a decent armour set I guess.

When I got something from the collectors, I just left my starter armour on the ground. It looked to me that each collector really had only one item I could use. I would have liked to be able to get at least 3 usable items from them or be able to keep bringing them the stuff they were looking for ...for maybe a few gold pieces.

Thanks, Scaphism. That clears that quandry up for me. Anybody want to buy a couple of really neat looking rings? Yuk Yuk.

Trapped? How does that work? Why won't they let you into the academy now?

Cool

I'm just happy that I'm not the oldest or slowest player in the game That was otherwise the impression I usually get when playing... Other players have been rushing ahead, especially in the recent beta events. Probably because there have been less new players, and many old players have wanted to get to Lion's Arch or lvl 20 before the end of the event.

After the release I believe things well be less rushed.

My first character is going to solve every quest he can, and explore every area he can, in his way through the game. My later characters are going to take reasonable shortcuts, just doing missions and "important" quests. At least until the expansion gets here.

Way to go Deagol. I am probably the oldest and slowest at 56. I like to try out the skills from all the trainers in turn.....and do all the quests before deciding which second profession I will stick with. It gives me the opportunity to see how my character works with skills of a Necro or Ranger, and gives me some cool quests to do before I settle on, say, Monk. I like exploring every inch of every map (I also take notes...ok so I am a bit obsessive compulsive) and building up my gold supply. I don't think I'd ever be able to rush a character through a game though. It wouldn't be fun to me.

What I AM going to do as soon as I log onto the game is bring up my Ranger/Monk and allocate those points I didn't know I was getting! LOL! At level 7 I should have a few racked up. I am also going to fiddle with the Edit Interface so my weapons bar doesn't overlap my skills bar and I don't keep accidentally clicking on an empty weapons slot when I am trying to heal myself in battle! LOL! ....senility sucks

AL stands for Armor Level. I understand that the guides can be a bit esoteric, sometimes the people with PhD's forget what it's like to be just starting out. I will look for a list of commonly used acronyms and terms in Guild Wars; if and when I find one, I'll add it to this post.

Hey. This forum is much better than the other one I used to go to. Especially because users here are not whiney 'lil bugs.

Anyway, I enjoyed many of the quest in PSA. One of my favorates is the gift quest. If you watch the dialouge between the Prince and his loyal captain (Or whatever he was. I don't remember) the captain assures the prince that he will find the perfect gift for his highness's gal. But what is the first thing the trustworthy captain does? He asks YOU to do it. We can learn a lot from that captain.

for me, i like to rush to the max level, then just dink around or help new people, or like the first couple beta events, sell myself out as a mercenary.

I found the feather and will go back to find the pearl...is that it? Has anyone finished that quest? If there is something else...what and where is it. Once I accidentally went to Althea and told her about the quest and she got really mad and I was unable to complete it...it just ended.
